The bands music has been featured on a number of TV shows or movies, including the film Drive Me Crazy and the shows House, Bones, and Privileged. Other acclaimed albums include Who We Are Instead, The Long Fall Back to Earth, The Shelter, Good Monsters, and Inland. Their later albums Much Afraid, If I Left the Zoo, and The Eleventh Hour each earned the band a Grammy award. The band has toured with a variety of other bands, including PFR, Matchbox Twenty, Duncan Sheik, and Sting.

Two of their singles, “Liquid” and “Flood.” “Flood” became one of the biggest mainstream hits ever by a Christian-labeled band.

They moved to Nashville and under the Essential Records label they released their self-titled debut album. After the band’s demo won a talent contest put on by the Gospel Music Association, Jars of clay received offers from record labels. The band members originally just helped each other with assignments from their music classes, but in helping each other and playing music together, they eventually decided form a band. The band is comprised of Dan Haseltine as the lead vocalist, Stephen Mason as the lead guitarist, Charlie Lowell as the pianist, and Matthew Odmark as rhythm guitarist. 'Jars of Clay is a Christian music band with stylistic influences from alternative rock, R&B, folk, and acoustic.
